'Dirty Care'

In Se Défendre (which will be published in translation with Verso in 2021), Elsa Dorlin develops the notion of 'dirty care.' I haven't read the book yet, but a review in Radical Philosophy (here) it is described as a process of 'sidestepping, of taking distance, of withdrawing'- in short, of running away- in which the members of an oppressed minority forget themselves and develop an acute knowledge of their persecutors, but not to their own benefit. This 'dirty care' gives power to the 'oppressors.'

Here is a translation of the book's prologue.
